Joe Jbeily
My work as a sculptor is based on an inner introspection that translates into aesthetic form. Whether made of wood, stone, bronze, or steel, my pieces are full of symbolism and are political, reflecting physical or psychological situations that echo the human condition or an abstract concept.
I cultivate the aesthetics of simplicity and abstraction, purity of line, impeccable finish, and harmony of movement. My work speaks to universal themes through the subject matter of the situations it evokes: hands raised in hope, bursts of joy, brokenness, maternal love, the sensuality of women, the strength of couples, the pain of separation, the challenge of healing, dreams, the return to nature, the dark face of despair, and the wriggling of pleasure.
