Marc André Fortier
Modified by different cultures and history, clothing is now more than 150,000 years old. It has evolved from a purely practical and utilitarian role to a garment of moral condition, social status, made of ornaments, fashionable finery. By wrapping the body in textiles, we leave room for verbal communication, for reflection. Primal instincts are then relegated to the background and it is the intellect that predominates.
Whether we dress in public, in private or at the grand ball of appearances, the garment reveals much more about its host than it can conceal: By knowing the established dress code, we can interpret a status, judge elegance, details, the choice of colors and textiles. We are able to form an impression of the individual even before having spoken to him.
